The Air Jordan 5 hit shelves in 1990. It maintained the mesh side panels with its predecessor and took another bold step with its look—it included the first appearance of a translucent sole on a Jordan signature sneaker. Tinker Hatfield drew inspiration from World War II era fighter planes when he implemented the infamous “shark-teeth” look into the sneaker's design along the midsole.
Arriving in sizes for adults and kids, the latest retro favors a predominantly “Black” color scheme that enables contrasting “Racer Blue” and reflective silver tones throughout to revel in the spotlight. Suede construction across most of the upper works in-tandem with semi-translucent mesh netting at the profiles for a build rooted in Air Jordan heritage, while the aforementioned detailing cement themselves in the same. Underfoot, icy blue, semi-translucent traction adds a modern-touch to Tinker Hatfield’s 1990 design.
