The 1980s marked a period of change for the Chuck Taylor All Star. As new technology enabled Converse to produce highly engineered basketball shoes for on-court action, the Chuck stepped into a different arena. It was no longer the sporting hero it had been for decades, but remained a popular casual choice for a huge demographic that swept across all facets of culture and style. West coast DNA is injected into both offerings through the upper fabrics. Instead of using the traditional canvas materials seen on these archival models, Stüssy reworks the base layers with a solid black 100% hemp which provides wearers with more breathability that’s convenient for the warmer seasons. Both takes have been stylized with subtle branding in the form of embroidered stars that show up on the lateral walls as well as Stüssy’s moniker printed on the interior side of the tongues. Additionally, the medial side logos have been blacked out, and “All-Star” written out on the streetwear stalwart’s signature font have been added to the tongue banners.
